Welcome to my blog. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and I am here to help you in your journey to becoming the person you were meant to be.
After 18 years practicing psychotherapy I have developed into the intuitive yet practical counselor that I am today. I bring to my work a traditional psychodynamic, relational approach, my 25 years of study and practice of mindfulness and meditation, my work as an artist and study of creative modalities. I use many different practical techniques, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, guided imagery, relaxation, free association, dream work, inner child, and family systems, to help guide you as you make the changes in your life that you desire.
I believe that we all have creativity inside of us, our life force, and one of our most powerful healing tools. I will help you access this creativity and discover what makes your heart sing. I can help you clarify your goals, life purpose and gifts, and develop your strengths.
Experience has taught me that discovering and focusing on your positive aspects breathes life into your spirit, giving you the strength to combat your demons, negative thought patterns or behaviors, compulsions, addictions, or feeling trapped in the pain of the past and not knowing how to let go.

Women's Artmaking Retreat with Kate Ransohoff and Carol Greenberger
“Inside each of us there sits a most handsome creative seed-bud waiting to be called upon to grow… because the life source of this seed-bud, here named Charley, is outside the confines of our lives, we are often not sure what to do with the itching and jiggling that Charley keeps popping loose inside us. Charley will challenge and cry out - again and again - demanding to be set free. One day we will listen and become curious. On that day a practice – a practice celebrating Charley’s freedom – can begin.”
Elijah’s Palace by Kate Ransohoff , a wonderfully inspiring book on creativity and making a place for Artmaking in one's life.
An Artmaking Retreat to help you move forward with whatever you are doing or wanting to do. Whether you are a working artist or a creative person ready to burst open your seed bud: Come and make art with others, share your process, get support for moving forward with whatever your next step is.
Kate Ransohoff, artist, author, and creator of Quilt: Art to Mend the World, is truly a midwife of creativity. If you have any desire at all, to do creative works, whether it be visual art, writing or a mixture, Kate will lead you through a process to help you reach your next step.
We will gather friday to connect, share our visions, talk with Kate and make plans for our weekend. Saturday and Sunday will be full days of Artmaking at a nearby studio space.
For many of us artmaking can be a solitary activity, but it doesn't need to be. The group will be limited to seven women to allow for a lot of individual attention.
$275 for Artmaking Retreat. Includes high quality tempera paints, paper, brushes. You may bring any other art supplies you would like to work with, except oil paints. Limited scholarship/sliding scale available, first come first serve. Payment arrangements can be made.
Carol Greenberger, M.A., Licensed Professional Counselor, will be assisting Kate. As an artist and a psychotherapist, she has led groups of all kinds. Carol has been in private practice for 18 years and is now practicing at The Relationship Center in Asheville. "I have painted for many years and whenever I have had the opportunity to work with Kate I have burst open to a new place with my painting. I always leave feeling inspired and ready to forge ahead in my work, or as Kate likes to say, my play. I have shared my inspiration for healing through creative work with many clients and am always heartened to see what happens when my clients tap their creative well." After this retreat a group will be form of those interested in making art together once a month with Carol.

Asheville Women’s Group offers eight weeks of empowerment
offer and receive support for your personal goals in a nurturing, affirmative environment
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A new women’s group offers eight weeks of individual empowerment in a dynamic series of group focus sessions with Carol Greenberger, M.A., L.P.C., a licensed professional counselor.
Greenberger takes her inspiration from an oft-quoted line from A Circle of Stones, asking, “How might your life be different if there had been a place for you...a place of women where you were affirmed?”
This group is her answer. Together, the group will discuss self-esteem, identifying and expressing feelings, communication, assertiveness, boundaries, hopes, dreams, and goal-setting. Each woman will offer as well as receive support throughout the process.
“The reason most people don't have what they want in their lives is because they either aren't clear about what they want, or don't believe they can have it,” explains Greenberger. “However, we can takes steps to reach our goals. Many of us just need support and encouragement to believe in ourselves and to persevere as we find own way and follow the path we were meant to follow.”
In the group, women will go through a process to transcend limiting beliefs about achievement. They will clarify “our true heart’s desire, what makes our heart sing, our soul’s purpose,” says Greenberger. “Then, we will plan steps to reach our goals.”
The group offers a renewable eight week commitment structure, and attendance is expected to be regular and consistent throughout the eight sessions for maximum benefit. Plus, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and most other insurances will cover expenses associated with the initial intake session or group fees. An affordable sliding scale is offered for those with out-of-pocket needs.
“This is an exceptional opportunity for women to receive the support for the work they want and need to do in their lives,” says Greenberger. “I welcome the opportunity to help others in ways that support their emotional and economic well-being during these stressful times.”
Is a group situation right for you? Contact facilitator Carol Greenberger M.A., L.P.C., for your intake session at carol@carolgreenberger.info, or by phone at (828) 225-5555. Now Accepting Blue Cross & Blue Shield Insurance Coverage
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sept. 5, 2010
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Carol Greenberger, M.A., L.P.C., a licensed professional counselor with The Relationship Center, announces an expansion of her practice with the addition of insurance provider Blue Cross and Blue Shield to her list of accepted providers.
“The addition of this prominent, well-respected insurance company to the listing of accepted providers is a real bonus to my clients,” says Greenberger, whose practice also accepts Medicaid and other providers.
“Before this, clients who carried Blue Cross and Blue Shield would have to pay out of pocket expenses, then file for reimbursement. Now, that process is streamlined, making it easier than ever for individuals and families to effect responsible, meaningful change in their lives.”
With health reform reflecting the need for “inclusive” treatments in health and wellness scenarios for individuals, this proactive stance couldn’t have come at a better time, Greenberger says. An uncertain economy has raised stress levels across the board, yet many individuals feel they cannot afford assistance when problems arise. In some small way, she hopes adding a major regional insurance provider to her list of accepted carriers will encourage people to get help when it’s needed.
Currently, Greenberger serves adult women, school-aged children and teens, and couples in her practice.
“I’m here to support my clients’ well-being in any way I can,” she says.
Carol Greenberger, M.A., L.P.C., can be reached at carol@carolgreenberger.info, or by phone at (828) 225-5555.
